Kutztown University Announces Spring 2019 Degree Recipients

Kutztown University has conferred degrees for nearly 1,300 students for the Spring 2019 semester. Kutztown University announces degree conferment twice a year, once in the winter and once in the summer. Commencement exercises are held in May and December; however, students finish the requirements for graduation throughout the entire year. The following students have been awarded degrees following the spring 2019 semester. The cumulative grade point average necessary for honors distinction is: with honor (cum laude) 3.40; with high honor (magna cum laude) 3.60 and with highest honor (summa cum laude) 3.80. Students listed multiple times have been awarded more than one degree.

Spring 2019 Dean's List Announced

A total of 1,520 students have been named to the Dean's List at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) for the Spring 2019 semester of the 2018-2019 academic year, according to Joanne Bruno, J.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs. Students eligible for the Dean's List are those who have attained a 3.50 quality point average or better and are enrolled full-time. The letter grade "B" earns 3 quality points per credit, and the grade "A" earns 4 quality points per credit.

Kutztown University Inducts 18 into Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society for Criminal Justice

Kutztown University inducted 18 students into its 2019 class of Alpha Phi Sigma, National Honor Society for Criminal Justice, at its annual induction ceremony on Tuesday, April 16. Alpha Phi Sigma was founded in 1942 at Washington State University and became affiliated with the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS) in 1976. Today there are almost 300 Alpha Phi Sigma chapters around the country. KU's Kappa Alpha chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma was established in 2008 with 13 founding members. The chapter advisors are Dr. Pietro Toggia and the assistant advisor is Dr. AnnMarie Cordner. To be eligible for membership, a student must be a criminal justice major or minor, have completed at least 40 credit hours, including at least four criminal justice courses, have an overall QPA of 3.2 or higher, and have a QPA in criminal justice courses of 3.2 or higher.

Wilkes University electrical and mechanical engineering majors presented their senior projects and demonstrated them at an event on April 28. It was attended by faculty, friends and family. Engineering students in the University's College of Science and Engineering are required to complete a senior project as part of the requirements to complete their degrees.

ESU to Graduate 1,187 Students at Three Commencement Exercises

A total of 1,187 students will receive degrees from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania at separate commencement exercises for undergraduate and graduate students on May 10 and May 11. ESU will hold three graduation ceremonies: one for graduate students on Friday, May 10 at 6:45 p.m. and two ceremonies for undergraduate students on Saturday, May 11. The undergraduate ceremonies will take place at 8:45 a.m. (College of Arts and Sciences and College of Education) and at 1:15 p.m. (College of Business and Management and College of Health Sciences). All three ceremonies will be held in Koehler Fieldhouse. A total of 995 bachelor's degrees, 188 master's degrees and four doctoral degrees will be awarded.

The Department of Communication Design held its Senior Student Awards Sunday, April 14, which included the grand opening of the Senior Student Showcase at the Marlin and Regina Miller Gallery. Department faculty joined dozens of guests for the ceremony. Wilkes University Students Participate in Alternative Break Trip to Jamaica

Seven Wilkes University students participated in a LEAP-AB trip to Jamaica March 2-9. LEAP-AB stands for Leadership, Education, Advocacy, and Partnerships-Alternative Break, coined by student leaders in 2016. Students donated their time working with RSVP Caribbean Volunteers. Students worked at the Mike Town Early Childhood Institution where they painted and redecorated the sickbay, the reading room, as well as made storage compartments and hopscotch game in the play area.

Wilkes University Students Participate in Alternative Break Trip to Costa Rica

Sixteen Wilkes University students participated in a LEAP-AB trip to Costa Rica March 2-9. LEAP-AB stands for Leadership, Education, Advocacy, and Partnerships-Alternative Break, coined by student leaders in 2016. The students learned about the intersection of ecotourism development and ecology by visiting a number of environmentally sensitive sites in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica. Students also completed community service with park rangers at Rincon de la Vieja National Park, maintaining hiking trails around the park. Students were also able to observe many species of flora and fauna in their natural habitat.

Wilkes University Student Completes Guthrie Clinical Semester

Four Wilkes University students are completing their Guthrie clinical semester as part of the Guthrie Scholars program. The Guthrie Scholars program is designed to give qualified juniors and seniors at Wilkes University who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine the opportunity to earn 15 credits while gaining first-hand knowledge of the life of a physician.
